The Art of Dying is an individual, interdisciplinary project between Film and Visual Communications. It consists of the screenplay and ‘pitch package’ for a web series about 28-year-old Vicky Gupta, who accidentally inherits a dying funeral services company and with it, the task of breathing new life into it.

Series Synopsis

Vicky Gupta, who is tired of working under the autocracy of his father in Mumbai, is given a real chance to prove his potential when he accidentally inherits a dying funeral services company.

As the series progresses, he is tasked with the responsibility of leading a cast of uninterested and lazy characters to breathe new life into the inherited company, and in the process, faces a host of hardships he's never faced before.

Episode 1: The Beginning Of The Ends

A restless Sanjay walks up and down the living room, looking at his watch. Meera, his wife, sees him and discreetly knocks on their son, Vicky’s door. She asks him to hurry up. Vicky makes excused at first but gives up and joins Sanjay. That day during a meeting, Sanjay turns down Vicky's proposal to upgrade their company's software in public and throws all the printed manuals in the bin, humiliating Vicky. That evening while Vicky is busy playing a video game, his mobile rings. He can’t hear it ring. The phone keeps getting louder, and Sanjay’s prayers are interrupted. Meera tries to resolve the tension. The next morning, a gentleman who claims to be a lawyer visits their apartment and informs Vicky that he’s been left the lease to a funeral services company. Vicky thinks the lawyer is fraudulent. At dinner, Vicky tries to ask his parents about him, but Sanjay accuses Vicky of wanting to get the lawyer involved to overthrow him. The next day at work, Sanjay takes away Vicky’s desk. Vicky reaches breaking point and decides to take up Mr. Roy’s offer. He packs some essentials and moves out. The episode ends with him reaching the funeral services company and immediately regretting his decision because of what he finds there.
